There was a distinct sense of deja vu in the air this evening as Paul McGuinness’ side took to the field for the Milk Cup final in exactly the same sort of atrocious Coleraine weather they experienced as they won the competition last season, and while there wasn’t quite the same dominant, swashbuckling performance that we witnessed 12 months ago, goals from Michael Ngoo and Etzaz Hussain ensured there was ultimately the same result – a Manchester United victory and more silverware for the Old Trafford trophy cabinet.

Milk Cup 2009: Reds crush Cantolao to move into quarters
Posted by nickogs20 on July 28, 2009
Skipper Robbie Brady bagged another brace as United put Peruvian side Cantolao to the sword in a terrific display of free-flowing attacking football in Coleraine this evening, taking his tally for the tournament to four in two games. Will Keane and Ryan Tunnicliffe were also on the mark as the Reds rained shots on the Cantolao goal, with only a great display from ‘keeper Patricio Musso Savage keeping the scoreline respectable.

Milk Cup – Reds reign in the Coleraine rain
Posted by nickogs20 on August 1, 2008
United’s march towards a third Premier Milk Cup title has had something of an air of inevitability about it all week, and so it proved this evening as Paul McGuinness’ side never really had to get out of third gear on their way to a 3-0 win over South Coast Bayern. Three top-quality goals from Oliver Norwood, Nicky Ajose and Federico Macheda were comfortably enough to overcome the plucky but ultimately outclassed Californians at a sodden Coleraine Showgrounds.

Milk Cup – Highlights from the first two games
Posted by nickogs20 on July 30, 2008
Video highlights from the Reds’ first two Milk Cup games are now available.
Click here for highlights of the opening day 4-0 win over Otago, courtesy of the BBC. Goals are from Federico Macheda (a header from Chris Curran’s right-wing cross), Evandro Brandão (a smart finish from Davide Petrucci’s clever flick), Nicky Ajose (another far post header from a Norwood freekick) and Ollie Norwood.
Meanwhile, here are the highlights from yesterday’s 4-0 win over County Armagh:
Goals in this one are from Joshua King (a far post header from Matty James’ cross), Matty James (a simple finish after a low cross from Zeki Fryers) and two from Federico Macheda (the latter after a fine run from King).
We should have full line-ups for these games up over the course of the next couple of days, as well as highlights of the Reds’ remaining games.
