As far as senior debuts go, scoring late on to earn your side a point against the league leaders isn’t too shabby – especially if you’re a defender. Step forward Scott Wootton…

United’s Reserves continued their encouraging pre-season campaign as Nicky Ajose’s second late winner in the space of four days secured a 3-2 win over St Johnstone in a testimonial for Saints’ keeper Alan Main.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Warren Joyce’s side threatened to run riot in the first half, racing into a 2-0 lead with goals from Oliver Norwood and Joshua King, but the hosts responded after the break with a quick double-salvo from Marcus Haber and Nicholas Main. Having seen his son level the scores, Main Senior was introduced from the bench for his final appearance at McDiarmid Park and received a rousing send-off from all in attendance, although not before the increasingly prolific Ajose rained on his parade just a little with his 88th minute decider.

Reserves: Dunfermline 1 United 5 – Reds hit five in Fife

United’s Reserves made it nine goals scored in their first two pre-season games as they put five past an outclassed Dunfermline at East End Park.
Coming off the back of a four-goal haul against Curzon Ashton on Monday, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side picked up where they left off and blew the Scottish First Division outfit away in the first half. Joshua King grabbed two goals inside the first twenty minutes, those two strikes sandwiching another from Nicky Ajose, and Rodrigo Possebon’s long range effort made it four before the break. While Andy Kirk’s free-kick pulled a goal back for the home side in a quieter second half, Will Keane put some deserved gloss on the scoreline and restored the four-goal cushion with a typical finish five minutes from time.

Reserves: Curzon Ashton 0 United 4 – Reds cruise through pre-season opener

Curzon Ashton | 0-4 | Manchester United Reserves |

United’s Reserves got their pre-season programme off to flying start with a comprehensive 4-0 win over Curzon Ashton at the Tameside Stadium.
The last encounter between these two sides ended in a resounding 8-0 victory for the Reds, and with goals from Magnus Eikrem, Ravel Morrison and Nicky Ajose giving Ole Solskjaer’s side a 3-0 lead at the break, a similar scoreline looked on the cards. United – showing off the club’s new home kit for the first time – laid siege to the Curzon goal in the second half and the brilliant Robbie Brady added a fine fourth, but the woodwork, several near misses and some profligate finishing meant that the non-leaguers kept the scoreline respectable.

From Africa to Ashton – Pre-Season is upon us
Posted by nickogs20 on July 12, 2010
For the last six weeks or so the focus of the football world has been on some minor tournament taking place in South Africa, but with that tinpot event drawing to a close last night, it’s time to shift that focus back to more important matters, starting tonight as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and a new-look United reserve squad get their pre-season programme up and running against local non-league outfit Curzon Ashton.
