Rampant Reds advance to Milk Cup semi-final date with Watford

Posted by nickogs20 on July 30, 2008

United’s U17 side took their goal tally for the week to an impressive thirteen in just three games after thrashing Dublin side Cherry Orchard 5-1 in Ballymoney to secure a place in the Northern Ireland Milk Cup semi-finals.

Goals from Ollie Norwood, Joshua King, Evandro Brandão (2) and Jack Dean saw the Reds through to the last four, with a Sean Doyle goal being nothing more than scant consolation for the Dubliners. As with the other games so far this week, the full line-up isn’t yet available but in addition to the scorers, Reece Brown, Matty James, Davide Petrucci, Federico Macheda, Cameron Stewart, Nicky Ajose, Scott Wootton and Ryan Tunnicliffe all played some part in the game. Highlights should be up on BBCi from noon tomorrow (and we’ll link to them on here when they make an appearance online) and you can view pictures from today’s game here.

United have been drawn against fellow English side Watford in tomorrow’s semi-finals, with the game set to take place at the Ballymena Showgrounds at 8pm. Watford beat Drogheda 4-0 to book their place in the last four, with striker Matty Whichelow hitting a hat-trick. The other semi-final will be held at the same venue at 6pm, and will be between Scottish side Hearts and South Coast Bayern of the USA. SCB caused the biggest shock of the competition so far, emphatically knocking out reigning champions Fluminense 4-1, while Hearts overcame Co.Londonderry on penalties after a 1-1 draw.
