Milk Cup stars Fryers and Tunnicliffe back in the England U17 squad

Fresh from playing major roles in the Reds’ third Milk Cup success at the start of the month, United U16’s Zeki Fryers and Ryan Tunnicliffe have been recalled to the England Under-17 squad for the forthcoming FA International Tournament.
The pair were regulars in John Peacock’s U17 selection for most of last season but weren’t involved in the squad for last month’s Nordic Tournament, with a younger, more experimental party being selected (including United’s Jesse Lingard) instead. This allowed the duo to take part in the Milk Cup, and they now return to the fold as the U17 squad is restored to something like full-strength, with the likes of Arsenal’s Jack Wilshere and new Spurs recruit John Bostock also involved.
The inclusion of much-hyped youngsters like Wilshere, Bostock and Everton’s José Baxter, all of whom have been training with their respective first-team squads, shows the strength of the 18-man selection and reflects extremely well on the United pair, who are of course still schoolboys. The FA International Tournament takes place at the end of the month, between the 27th and 31st of August, and is comprised of games against Portugal, Israel and Italy, the latter of which might see Fryers and Tunnicliffe facing their United team-mate Davide Petrucci.
More details on the tournament and the full squad can be found here, and we’ll have news of how the United lads get on when the tournament gets underway in a couple of weeks time.
