Loan Update: October 5

International break it may be, but with eight United youngsters on loan in Leagues One and Two, there’s still something for Reds to keep an eye on at club level over the next fortnight – last night’s Johnstone’s Paint Trophy action for starters, which saw involvement for five of our loanees on what turned out to be quite a dramatic evening.

Joy for James as England sneak into the semis

Late, late drama in both Group A matches has seen England qualify for the semi-finals of the UEFA U19 European Championship in unlikely fashion and prolonged the participation of United duo Matt James and Reece Brown for at least another few days.

Reserves: United 2 City 2 – More derby drama as City strike late to claim a point

It wouldn’t be a Manchester Derby this season without some late drama, but this time it was the blue side of the city who struck in the closing stages to change the result. Thankfully they chose a reserve game to make their late intervention, and United were still left with a useful point after a typically competitive clash ended 2-2 at Moss Lane.

Leading 2-0 after half an hour via Reece Brown’s free header and an impudent backheeled finish from the increasingly prolific Will Keane, the Reds were almost immediately pegged back by a goal from Alex Nimely and thereafter struggled to re-establish their early superiority. City exerted steady pressure on the United goal throughout the second half and when Brown conceded a penalty in the final minute, Andrew Tutte was able to step up and secure City a deserved share of the points from 12 yards.

Injuries threaten Youth Cup bid
