Venue switch sees Reserves return to former home

Posted by nickogs20 on October 29, 2008

BoltonUnited’s home Manchester Senior Cup tie against Bolton Wanderers tomorrow evening (Thursday) has been switched from the reserves’ usual home at Northwich Victoria’s Marstons Arena to their home from a few seasons ago, Altrincham FC’s Moss Lane.

Moss Lane played host to the Reds’ second string between 2002 and 2005 and was the scene of some great success towards the end of that period as the reserves racked up the silverware under the guidance of Rene Meulensteen. More recently, the reserves won 3-0 in a pre-season friendly against Altrincham back in July of this year, a game that was unfortunately marred by crowd trouble and abandoned shortly before full-time.

Anyone planning to go and watch this game who maybe hasn’t been to Moss Lane before will be pleased to hear the ground is a lot easier to get to than the Marstons Arena, pretty much regardless of the method of transport you’re using – all relevant information can be found here. Admission tomorrow night is £5 adults, £2 concessions and free to all United season ticket holders and OneUnited members on production of their access/membership cards.

We’ll have the team news as soon as it’s made available tomorrow and a full match report later in the evening.

Where next for those moving on?

Posted by nickogs20 on June 7, 2008

For most United fans, all the focus now and over the next couple of months will understandably be on players coming in (or potentially coming in), but spare a thought for those leaving Old Trafford – in particular those leaving to an uncertain future. Several players are set to be released or not have their contracts renewed this summer, and while United do everything they can to ensure these players find another club, there are essentially only so many professional contracts up for grabs each year and there are an awful lots of players competing for them.
