Hot on the heels of the Reserves clinching their league title ten days ago, Paul McGuinness’ U18s will be looking to follow suit tomorrow morning as they travel to Bolton knowing that a win will see them crowned champions of Premier Academy League Group C.

Moss Lane, Altrincham
|Manchester United Reserves||2-0||Everton Reserves|
After a fortnight of frozen pitches and fixture frustration, United’s reserves returned to action with a convincing win over a youthful Everton second string at Moss Lane.
Bolstered by the relative experience of Anderson, Mame Biram Diouf, Gabriel Obertan, Ben Foster and Fábio da Silva, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side always looked too strong for a committed but outclassed Toffees outfit and dominated the ninety minutes, with perhaps the only surprise being that the scoring was limited to just a three minute period at the end of the first half. A fine performance from Iain Turner in the visitors’ goal was the primary reason for this, but the young Scot was powerless to keep out Diouf’s fine strike after an Anderson-led counter or Cameron Stewart’s precise finish from the edge of the area.

Halton Stadium, Widnes
|Everton Reserves||0-1||Manchester United Reserves|
Much of the focus at Widnes’ rain-lashed Halton Stadium this evening was on the return of Edwin van der Sar from injury, but on a night when neither keeper really had to break sweat, it was Kiko Macheda who stole the headlines and plaudits with a second-half winner that sent United’s Reserves three points clear at the top of the Premier Reserve League North.
After a first half that saw neither side manage to register a shot on target, Macheda made the crucial breakthrough ten minutes after the interval after Everton’s well-marshalled defence was finally prised open by the excellent Magnus Eikrem. With the returning van der Sar largely a spectator, that solitary strike was enough to hand the Reds a fourth win out of five games and an outright lead at the top of the table.

Trafford Training Centre, Carrington
|Manchester United U18s||1-2||Everton U18s|
|Ajose 85||–||Craig 11|
Academy league football is nothing if not unpredictable, and once again that was emphatically highlighted this morning as United’s high-flying Under-18s were turned over by bottom-of-the-table Everton at a remarkably blustery Carrington. The Toffees had lost four of their six games so far and conceded 14 goals in the process, but produced a performance that belied that dismal run of form and lowly league position to deservedly inflict a second home defeat of the season on Paul McGuinness’ team and take all three points back to Merseyside.
Nathan Craig’s early strike got Everton off to a great start, and although United thereafter dominated possession, the visitors produced a display of well-organised, dogged defending that their goals against tally so far this season suggested they were incapable of. As conditions worsened in the second half and the wind really started to affect proceedings, the Toffees took full advantage with a killer second goal as Lewis Codling headed home from a set-piece, and while United got one back late on in bizarre fashion as the wind sent a Nicky Ajose corner past the despairing Everton keeper, they couldn’t muster an equaliser in the remaining five minutes.

Moss Lane, Altrincham
|Manchester United Reserves||2-0||Everton Reserves|
|de Laet 17||–||–|
United’s reserves extended their current unbeaten record in all competitions (home and away) to eight games and moved back into second place in the Premier Reserve League North with a thoroughly convincing 2-0 victory against their Everton counterparts at Moss Lane this evening. Early goals from Danny Drinkwater – officially his first of the season – and Ritchie de Laet – his first for United – stunned Everton, and by half-time it really should have been four or five, Zoran Tošić hitting the bar twice amongst a number of other chances for the Reds. The visitors came into the game late on with first-team striker James Vaughan looking dangerous, but the result of the match was never really in doubt.

|Everton U18s||1-1||Manchester United U18s|
|Sinnott 21||–||Morrison 5|
United’s Academy side picked up another hard-earned point on their travels and maintained their unbeaten away record for this season as they travelled to Everton’s new Academy Centre at Halewood this morning and held their talented hosts to a 1-1 draw. U16s and England Schoolboys winger Ra’vel Morrison continued his promising early integration into the U18 side with United’s goal after just five minutes, the Reds being pegged back a quarter of an hour later by a Corey Sinnott header.
