Reds draw Shakers in Senior Cup

Posted by nickogs20 on July 14, 2010

United’s Reserves will face Bury in the first round of this season’s Lancashire Senior Cup.

The Reds – who won the trophy under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in both 2008 and 2009 before unfortunately exiting last season’s competition on penalties – will begin their campaign with an away tie at the Shakers’ Gigg Lane stadium, with a home quarter-final against Oldham Athletic the prize awaiting the victor. With Blackburn Rovers, Morecambe, Rochdale and Blackpool the other contenders in United’s half of the draw, Solskjaer’s side have every chance of making another run to the final, with a 14th LSC triumph the ultimate goal.

The full draw for this season’s competition is as below:

1 Blackburn Rovers F.C. v Rochdale A.F.C.

2 Bolton Wanderers F.C. v Accrington Stanley F.C.

3 Wigan Athletic F.C. v Manchester City F.C.

4 Bury F.C. v Manchester United F.C.

5 Morecambe F.C. v Blackpool F.C.

BYES: Liverpool F.C., Oldham Athletic F.C., Preston North End F.C.

6 Wigan Athletic F.C. or Manchester City F.C. v Liverpool F.C.

7 Preston North End F.C. v Bolton Wanderers F.C. or Accrington Stanley F.C.

8 Bury F.C. or Manchester United F.C. v Oldham Athletic F.C.

9 Blackburn Rovers F.C. or Rochdale F.C. v Morecambe F.C. or Blackpool F.C.

10 Winner of Match 8 v Winner of Match 9

11 Winner of Match 7 v Winner of Match 6

12 Winner of Match 10 v Winner of Match 11

Fixtures dates/times and venue information aren’t available yet, but should be published in the near future, presumably after Liverpool and Oldham Athletic have contested the 2010 LSC final on July 24.

On a further reserve fixture-related note, the calendar for this season’s Barclays Premier Reserve League has been finalised and fixture lists have been disseminated to the competing clubs today, with a number already publishing details on their official websites. United are set to follow suit shortly, and we’ll have all the details when that happens. One thing we can confirm is that – as we exclusively revealed three weeks ago – a new national format for the competition has been adopted for the new season.
