A late equaliser from Will Keane salvaged a deserved point for United and kept the Reds on top of Academy League Group C after bogey side Crewe Alexandra had threatened to win at Carrington for the fourth season in a row.

Nicky Ajose’s fine early strike had got the Reds off to the perfect start but, in keeping with what was to be an open and end-to-end encounter, the visitors levelled twelve minutes later through Michael Koral. While United began to assert their dominance in the second half, it was the Railwaymen who took the lead via the head of Jason Oswell, and Paul McGuinness’ side had to rely on top scorer Keane to save the day with a typically cool finish seven minutes from time.

Maybe i am being harsh, but whats with the Scouse Academy recruitment policy?First Wootton(who i really dont rate),and now potentially Roberts-Nurse.What with the Raheem Sterling transfer going south too,i wonder what is going on with our youth policy, both presently and in the past. When did we last produce bona fide first team player from the youth system? O shea is nearly 30!.Plenty of hype, little end product..

    Erm, Darren Fletcher? Jonny Evans?

The Raheem Sterling transfer didn’t ‘go south’, he joined his boyhood club. If it went south for us then it went south for Chelsea and Arsenal as well. Nothing wrong with taking a look at good young players wherever they come from either, even from Liverpool.
