Reserves: United 1 Bolton 0 – Reds see off familiar foe

If familiarity really does breed contempt, these two sides are going to be absolutely sick of each other by the end of the season. United’s second string took on their Bolton Wanderers counterparts for the fourth (and not necessarily final) time this term and successfully avenged December’s penalty shootout defeat to the Trotters with a 1-0 win at Moss Lane.

In a game that never got close to matching the drama, excitement and goal tally of that last meeting, it took a goal from the unlikely figure of David Gray on the brink of half-time to break the deadlock and decide a contest that was marred by the incessant Manchester rain. The Reds could and should have secured a more comfortable margin of victory, but just the one goal was ultimately enough to take the three points and leapfrog Liverpool at the top of the Premier Reserve League North.

I didn’t get to see this one as the only online feed I could find was for the Academy game, but how is David Gray looking as a potential first teamer?

Does anyone know why Kiko wasn’t even in the squad? Did he pick up another knock?
