Youth Cup: Reds set for Clarets clash

Posted by nickogs20 on January 13, 2010

Fixtures have been falling by the wayside at all levels this particularly wintry January, but United’s Youth Cup fourth round tie with Burnley tonight is set to go ahead.

Burnley’s home Premier League meeting with Stoke City at was postponed on Saturday for safety reasons, but with a much less sizable crowd expecting at Turf Moor this evening there aren’t expected to be any issues on that front. The Bob Lord stand is open for both home and away spectators, with tickets priced at £4 adults, £2 concessions for the 7pm kick-off.

United’s U18s were last in action in their third round victory over Birmingham back on December 10th, and with the young Clarets last outing coming just two days later, both teams will be a little rusty heading into tonight’s game. Burnley may play their academy football in the Football League’s Youth Alliance rather than the top tier Premier Academy League, but they have won their last seven games on the spin and will fancy their chances of catching Paul McGuinness’ side cold and causing an upset.

Team news is hard to come by due to the length of time since the Reds’ last match, but the group of players that got past Birmingham at Moss Lane may well be bolstered by the likes of Joshua King, Etzaz Hussain and Zeki Fryers returning from injury. You can find out the team either via MUTV (whose coverage starts at 6.30pm) or from our updates on Twitter, where we’ll also be providing updates from Turf Moor as the game progresses.
