United 3 Huddersfield 1: Reds weather second-half storm to take the points

Manchester United U18s 3-1 Huddersfield Town U18s
Cofie 19 Chippendale 61
Morrison 78
Hussain 81

United’s U18s picked up a first home win of the nascent Premier Academy League season against Huddersfield Town at an atypically sunny Carrington this morning, but only after overcoming what seems to have become the now traditional second-half wobble. In all three previous fixtures the Reds have gone into half-time with the lead, only to emerge for the second forty-five minutes a shadow of their first-half selves, conceding soon after the interval on each occasion.

The same happened here, with Paul McGuinness’ side leading 1-0 at the break – thanks to John Cofie’s tap-in – and well on top. The game turned on its head right from the start of the second half however, and Huddersfield were well worthy of their equaliser, scored by half-time sub Aiden Chippendale. The Terriers looked the more likely winners for long spells of the second half, but a Ravel Morrison goal on the counter-attack saw United regain the initiative, and when Etzaz Hussain poked home from close range just three minutes later the points were secure.

Full report to come…

Is it true that Ngoo has signed for liverpool?? i wasnt that impressed by him but to lose him to a rival academy is annoying

  7. Tone said

Who says we lost him? Maybe he went there after he wasn’t offered a contract by us?

i realy hope not i thaut he looked good, maybe work on the shooting though. cheers tone for the petrucci update. also does any one know anything about elliot kebbie aparrently he played for us in the holland tour??

Re: International clearance – it takes as long as it takes us/FIFA to resolve the current issues with the French and Italian FAs and their refusal to release the players’ registration.

Ngoo – as far as I know we didn’t make a bid. The press talk of us ‘losing out’ to Liverpool or them pinching him from under our noses is likely exactly that – press talk. He would maybe have been a useful option but showed nothing to suggest he was as good as Cofie and clearly isn’t as good as King, and is essentially the same type of forward.

Elliot Kebbie certainly didn’t play for us on the Holland tour (he’s 14!). He committed his future to Leeds last week.

Exactly my thinking, cause when you read the qoutes it says Liverpool met the asking price. Clearly, we didn’t, cause he wasn’t considered good enough. They have, after all, paid £250000 for him.
