Loan Update – 15-17 August

Posted by nickogs20 on August 17, 2009

A first, and admittedly brief, update on the progress of those United youngsters playing their football out on loan this season.

Brief because, as things stand, only six players have been loaned out, and also because only three of those six were in action this past weekend. Most notable of those was Adem Ljajić, whose deflected strike after 15 minutes set Partizan on their way to an emphatic 5-0 opening day victory over Borac. After the recent disappointment of a Champions League qualifying exit to Apoel Nicosia, that result was exactly what the Serbian champions needed to get their title defence up and running.

Elsewhere, Danny Drinkwater made his debut for Huddersfield as a 72nd minute substitute in their 3-1 win over Southampton at the Galpharm Stadium, while summer signing Mame Biram Diouf – who is staying at Molde FK in Norway on loan until January – was unable to prevent his side losing 2-1 away to Viking Stavanger and missing out on the chance to close the gap on Tippeligaen leaders Rosenborg.

As for the other trio, Tom Heaton was an unused substitute for QPR in their draw against Plymouth Argyle at Home Park, while Danny Simpson’s loan move was seemingly finalised too late for him to be included in the squad for Newcastle’s impressive 3-0 home win against Reading. Rodrigo Possebon meanwhile was a surprising omission from the Sporting Braga squad for their season opening 1-0 win over Academica Coimbra after featuring regularly in the side during pre-season.

Danny also hit the freekick that led to Huddersfield’s 3rd goal, initially hitting the post, before the rebound was put in the net.

The Serbian league did indeed start this weekend. Ljajic got the first goal in Partizans 5-0 win over Borac.

That pic is too small but yeah – tunnicliffe on the left sticking his head out – then Hussain, Cofie and Will Keane celebrating in the middle. With Ngoo in the background too
