United sign Addicks youngster McGinty

Sir Alex Ferguson appears to have won the race to clinch the signature of Charlton Athletic’s promising Republic of Ireland Under-17 defender Sean McGinty.
Described by the Addicks’ official site as ‘a rugged centre-back who puts his body on the line and combines excellent man-marking and aerial ability with a composed presence on the ball’, the Maidstone-based youngster has been at the Valley since the age of 12 and has already had a taste of both Under-18 and Reserve football with the South London club.
Chelsea, Arsenal and Aston Villa were all thought to be tracking the teenager, but it’s United who appear to have swooped decisively to add him to their defensive ranks, with The Sun claiming a £500,000 deal has been agreed between the Reds and Charlton. If that is the case – and we should hopefully get confirmation in the next few days – Sean will immediately join his fellow new first-year scholars for the start of pre-season training.
