Galbraith handed Hibs chance

Posted by nickogs20 on July 3, 2009

Daniel Galbraith has joined Hibernian of the SPL after being released by United this summer.

The 18 year-old has moved to the Edinburgh club after arriving at Old Trafford three years ago from Hibs’ great rivals Hearts. In that time the Galashiels-born youngster showed glimpses of the promise that prompted Sir Alex Ferguson to pay £50,000 for his services in 2006, but terrible luck with injuries hampered the Scot’s progress, with a ten-month lay-off due to a persistent groin problem ruling him out for the majority of last season.

After the club made the difficult decision to release Galbraith this summer, both Hibs and Hearts showed interest in taking the teenager back to his home country. Trials with both clubs followed and, despite Danny’s childhood allegiance to Hearts, it was his spell with Hibs that left a lasting impression. The Easter Road club were similarly taken with the player and, despite a subsequent change of manager as John Hughes replaced Mixu Paatelainen, offered a two-year contract that was accepted a couple of weeks ago.

Holidays for both player and manager have meant that the signing was only announced yesterday, as pre-season got underway. Hibs’ official site carries quotes from both Danny and John Hughes, with the former speaking of his delight at securing both a return home and a deal with a top SPL side:

“I’m delighted to be returning to Scotland and in particular to Hibernian. I really enjoyed my time at Manchester United but the time was right for me to seek a new challenge with first-team football my main aim. I know that will be a tough task in itself as there are a lot of quality players in my age group stepping up from the successful Hibernian Under-19 side, but I’ve never shied away from a challenge in my career.”

Hughes meanwhile had this to say:

“Daniel arrives at Hibernian with a great attitude and the best of his career ahead of him. He was unlucky with injuries at Manchester United, but is very young with good energy about the park – he has his whole career ahead of him and has shown he can play a variety of positions on the left-hand side. I’m really looking forward to working with him as he will provide great competition for places and I’m sure we’re going to get the best out of him.”

Best of luck Danny.

As a Hibs fan i am looking forward to seeing Danny play. If he is good enough he will get a chance in the first team.
Regarding his recent trial with Hearts , he was horrified that he had to leave the training centre they rent as it was time to let the public in :-)

I always assumed Hearts were just a little club.

    guess this story confirms it.
