Manchester United U18s | 3-2 | Blackburn Rovers U18s |
Lingard 6 | – | Hitchcock 25, 51 |
King 43 | – | – |
Ajose 63 | – | – |
An extremely youthful United U18 side narrowly edged an entertaining encounter with Blackburn Rovers this afternoon and finished their league campaign on a real high, as Paul McGuinness took the opportunity to field the sort of side we may well see when the Premier Academy League kicks off again in August. Eight schoolboys were involved and another two made the bench, with the rest of the side made up of the first year scholars that will provide the ‘experience’ next season.
One of those schoolboys, Jesse Lingard, handed United an early lead with an impudent finish, quite a way to mark your debut. Blackburn then had the better of the first half and levelled with a goal from Tom Hitchcock (son of former Chelsea keeper Kevin), but United retook the lead minutes before the break through Joshua King, very much against the run of play. Hitchcock levelled for a second time in the second half, but a much improved United display brought the reward of a fine winner from top scorer Nicky Ajose just after the hour mark.

I see Jack Barmby (son of Nick) and Kenji Gorre (son of some dutch player) came on, anyone know how they did? Is Gorre staying at United? I heard Chelse and Liverpool were trying to steal him

Hi Nickogs,
I’m from Norway and going to Old Trafford, only for my second time this weekend to watch United – City.
My traveling companions wants to go to Liverpool to watch Everton – Spurs, but I’ll rather watch United Reserves/United Acadamy play… But it doesn’t look like thay are going to play?

Hi Ole – the academy season is finished unfortunately, but the reserves have a friendly game on Saturday, against Kendal Town:
https://manunitedyouth.wordpress.com/2009/05/01/united-xi-to-face-kendal-town-in-post-season-friendly/
All the details are there. It’s about £15 for a return ticket on the train from Manchester, £6 for the match tickets, which you can buy at the ground from midday up until kickoff (at 2pm). Ole’s managing the side, should be a decent team out.
Hope that’s of some use, give us a shout if you need any more info.

Thanks alot Nickogs!
After watching the map, I’m afraid it’s to far away for me. I have no idea how I will get there. I guess it will be enough finding around in Manchester. :)
PS!
“..edging out FC United for a place in the playoffs before narrowly losing to Ilkeston Town 4-3 after extra-time in the playoff semi-final.”
Argg.. Too bad FC United didnt get promoted.

No problem :D
Doesn’t look like I’m going to be able to make it to Kendal so if anyone who does go fancies writing a few words by way of a match report I’d be very grateful :)
