Reserves – Boro clash postponed

Posted by nickogs20 on November 20, 2008

MiddlesbroughNext Thursday’s reserve fixture between United and Middlesbrough at Moss Lane has been postponed. With the Reds taking on Chelsea that same night in the third round of the FA Youth Cup, a number of reserve squad members (and many regular reserves spectators) will be at Old Trafford for that game instead, prompting the decision to reschedule the Boro game for a later date (as yet undecided).

The next competitive fixture for Ole Solskjaer’s second string will now be the following week, when the Reds travel to the North-East to face Sunderland on December 3rd.

Surely this one will be moved as well? We’re playing in the league cup that night, reserve players might be involved, should be involved, in that.

Possibly, although it may be that OGS and the rest of the coaching staff at United prefer not to leave the reserves without a game for so long and fulfil the fixture anyway. Even if we assume Welbeck, Manucho, Possebon, Gibson, Cleverley and maybe Chester are called up for the League Cup game, we could still take a pretty strong team up to the North East – Amos, Gray, C Evans, Wootton, Eckersley, Hewson, James, Drinkwater, Stewart, Bryan, Macheda for example (if all fit), with other Academy players involved.
