Amos and Chester return for MSC clash with Bolton

Posted by nickogs20 on October 30, 2008

Ben AmosBen Amos and captain James Chester return to an otherwise unchanged United reserve side for tonight’s Manchester Senior Cup meeting with Bolton Wanderers at Altrincham’s Moss Lane.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has named pretty much his strongest possible side for the visit of Bolton as United look to make it three wins out of three in the competition and take a huge step towards qualification for the final as they seek to defend the trophy they won against the same opposition at Old Trafford back in May.

With Ben Foster being considered for first team action at Celtic next week, Ben Amos replaces him for his first reserve appearance in quite some time, first-team and England U19 duty having occupied him for much of the last month. Centre-half Chester returns after missing the last three games due to the injury that forced him off against Wigan at the start of October – he takes the place of Rafael da Silva (in action for the first-team last night of course), with either David Gray or Corry Evans shifting to right-back.

Elsewhere, the five-man midfield that so dominated against City last week will continue, with Manucho once more leading the line. There’s a place on the bench for Academy centre-back Scott Wootton, who will take his seat alongside Ron-Robert Zieler, Magnus Eikrem, Jimmy Derbyshire and Anton Bryan.

No Bolton team news as yet, there’s no live coverage on MUTV either so keep an eye on the RedCafe reserves/youth forum for updates and check back here later this evening for a full report. To remind anyone who missed the news, tonight’s game is at Moss Lane in Altrincham rather than the usual venue of the Marstons Arena at Northwich, where there have been problems with the floodlights this week.

United: Amos; Gray, C Evans, Chester, Eckersley; Gibson, Drinkwater, Possebon, Hewson, Cleverley; Manucho.
Substitutes: Zieler, Derbyshire, Eikrem, Wootton, Bryan.
