United’s second string host Wigan Athletic at the Marstons Arena this evening, looking to improve in terms of both performance and points gained from the opening game stalemate with Blackburn Rovers.
United make five changes to the line-up that started that game against Rovers, injuries and international call-ups depriving Ole Solskjaer of Ben Foster, Rafael, Danny Drinkwater, Rodrigo Possebon and Danny Welbeck. Stepping in are Gary Woods, Corry Evans, Magnus Eikrem, Kiko Macheda and, making his reserves debut, Angolan striker Manucho.
The Reds line up as follows:
1. Gary Woods
2. David Gray
3. Richard Eckersley
4. Corry Evans
5. James Chester (c)
6. Darron Gibson
7. Magnus Eikrem
8. Manucho
9. Federico Macheda
10. Sam Hewson
11. Tom Cleverley
Subs: Devlin, Derbyshire, Gill, Stewart, Bryan.
Wigan are also playing their second league fixture of the campaign tonight, almost a month after their first-game defeat to Manchester City. Keith Bertschin’s side line up like this: Postlethwaite, Buxton, Field, Pearson, Mustoe, Hampson, Mahon, Routledge, Holt, Cywka, Kupisz.
The game is live on MUTV from 7pm, we’ll have a full report later.
