Loan Roundup: September 23-24

Posted by nickogs20 on September 25, 2008

After a midweek of Carling Cup action, United are joined in the last 16 by three of their loanees.

We were guaranteed to have one of the four loanees still involved through to the next round as Tom Heaton‘s Cardiff travelled to the Liberty Stadium on Tuesday night to face Febian Brandy‘s Swansea in the 99th South Wales Derby. Both players started the game on the bench (Heaton being rested) and only Brandy made it on the pitch, albeit just for the final five minutes in place of Jason Scotland as the home side saw out a 1-0 win over their local rivals.

The other two youngsters still left in were involved in all-Premier League ties on Wednesday night. Blackburn overcame Everton 1-0 at Ewood Park with Danny Simpson again playing the full ninety at right-back, while Fraizer Campbell got on for the last half-hour of Spurs 2-1 win away at Newcastle. Both Fraizer and Danny will be hoping their loan clubs avoid United in Saturday’s fourth round draw, both to give them a greater chance of progressing and to ensure they will able to play in the next round.
