Reserve Preview – United look to preserve 100% MSC record at Oldham

Posted by nickogs20 on April 21, 2008

United’s second string are back in action tonight as they kick off a three week period which could see them finish the campaign with two trophies to show for their efforts this season.

Brian McClair and Jim Ryan’s men are already assured of a place in the Manchester Senior Cup Final after winning their four games in the competition so far (and scoring 16 goals in the process past Bury, Stockport, Manchester City and Bolton) but after three weeks without a game, tonight’s final group match at Oldham’s Boundary Park offers both the prospect of clinching a 100% record and the chance to get some competitive football under their belt ahead of more important matches to come.

The Latics have lost all four of their matches in the competition thus far (albeit only going down to Bury in a penalty shoot-out) so will have little more than pride to play for, but the squad named by McClair and Ryan certainly suggest the Reds won’t be underestimating their opponents. The 15-man travelling party includes Chris Eagles, Rodrigo Possebon, Craig Cathcart and Danny Welbeck, while Sam Hewson makes an earlier-than-expected return from the ankle injury that was thought to have ended his season. U18 regulars Ben Amos, Corry Evans, Danny Galbraith and Antonio Bryan also feature.

Unfortunately there’s no live coverage on MUTV tonight but for anyone wanting to make the trip to Boundary Park in person, tickets are priced £4 (£2 concessions) and kick-off is 7pm.

UNITED SQUAD: Amos; Gray, Chester, C Evans, Cathcart; Cleverley, Jones, Possebon, Hewson, Galbraith, S Evans, Eagles; Welbeck, Fagan, Bryan.
