Denzil Haroun Reserve Player of the Year Award nominees announced

It’s that time of year again…
Reserve team coaches Brian McClair and Jim Ryan have nominated Tom Cleverley, Richard Eckersley and Sam Hewson for this season’s Denzil Haroun Reserve Player of the Year Award. This has been the first full season of reserve football for all three players, and their nomination for the award serves to highlight just how well they’ve stepped up from academy football, where they all played a big part in the FA Youth Cup run last season. Cleverley in particular has been something of a revelation this season, overcoming injury problems in the first half of the campaign to put in a series of strong performances in a relatively new central midfield role and earn the reserve captaincy in Kieran Lee’s absence. Whilst I’m a big fan of Sam Hewson as a player and think he will ultimately go on to have the more successful career of the three, for the reasons listed above Tom Cleverley gets my vote.
Previous winners of the award include Nicky Butt, Darren Fletcher and John O’Shea, and last year’s winner was Kieran Lee. This year’s victor will be announced at the annual Awards Dinner on 11th May 2008, and registered Manutd.com users can vote here.
FYI, a full list of previous winners of both the Denzil Haroun award and the Jimmy Murphy Young Player of the Year award will soon be accessible in the soon-to-be-opened statistics and records section of this site.
