Spain defeat sends Brady’s Ireland home pointless

Posted by nickogs20 on May 10, 2008

Already elimited from the U17 European Championships, the Republic of Ireland succumbed to a third straight group stage defeat, going down 3-1 to holders and tournament favourites Spain. The Irish took the lead through Conor Hourihane but were eventually sunk by a brace from Barcelona starlet Ruben Rochina.

Still nursing an injury picked up in Ireland’s opening match with France, Robbie Brady again started from the bench. He replaced Gavin Gunning on 57 minutes and was heavily involved in the remainder of the game, twice coming close to pulling a goal back for his side. Brady will return home with the rest of the Irish party in the next couple of days disappointed with the way results went but hopefully all the better for the experience of tournament football.
