Ben Amos, Daniel Drinkwater and Danny Welbeck have been called up by England under-18 coach Brian Eastick for next Wednesday’s friendly with Austria at Hartlepool United’s Victoria Park home. Welbeck and Drinkwater were the scorers last time England U18 played (a 2-0 win over Ghana in November), while Amos has forced his way back into the international reckoning after missing last summer’s U17 World Cup with a dislocated shoulder. Under-18 friendlies are few and far between (only two a season for England) so this is a big opportunity for the United trio to put themselves into contention for the U19’s next season and the qualifying tournament for the 2009 U19 European Championships.

thefa.com have an interview with Danny Welbeck, reflecting on his interaction with the first team this season (particularly his spot on the bench alongside Rooney and Ronaldo against Roma last week) and his youth international career so far. You can read the article here.
